Lips: soft,
velvety, pouty, these are just some
adjectives used to describe the seductive power of the mouth, defined
in various polls, as the most erotic part of the face. The mouth is
one of the most significant features of the face. It therefore
requires special care and attention as consideration must be given to
the fact that always lurking is the risk of creating vulgar unnatural
lips. An inappropriate lip color, an excessive enlargement of the
labial rim, a lip which is too obvious; all these mishaps could make
even The Madonnas of Michelangelo look vulgar. It is difficult to
effectively make up a mouth with conventional make up as the products
are deposited on the surface of the lips. However, with permanent
makeup, which uses pigments introduced into the skin, the execution
of effective make up is even more of a challenge. This difference
becomes crucial when the goal of permanent make up is to trick and
deceive the eye of the observer with an illusionary effect of
enhancement. A common mistake in the world of permanent makeup is to
confuse this practice with everyday make-up, trying to achieve color
effects and improved structure. A frequent mistake is to enlarge the
mouth and color it uniformly with the same colour, however this
creates a homogeneous look which only serves to reveal an
unsuccessful attempt at deception. A natural effect can only be
achieved by the use of highlights to give different volumes and
gradiations of colour which mimics the actual perception of natural
solar reflection. In fact, the labial rim is simply the union of two
materials of different origin, skin and the lips, this union creates
an anatomic ledge which is illuminated and defined clearly by the
contours of the new lip boundary. Permanent makeup is designed mainly
to define the outline of the lips, the color uniformity of the lips,
to correct the asymmetry of the mouth and create optical effects of
increased volume. The permanent make up specialist uses the complex
techniques of lighting effects, shadows, light and shade where the
"old lip” gives way to the illusion of the new lip.
Until a few years ago permanent make up treatments on the mouth which were most requested and admired were fleshy and overstated, however this look had its critics. Fortunately today permanent makeup prefers a discreet, barely perceptible improved look of the mouth, where the choice of color take account of skin tones, and the non-verbal language of the lips, mouth, face can be enhanced. A well executed permanent makeup treatment goes unnoticed, but does not ignore the natural beauty of a perfect mouth. "Amaze with simplicity" is the advice that I would always give to all the people who decide to approach permanent makeup, whether they be technicians or clients. Artistic license is intended to unleash the pencil and lipstick to create bold presumptuous colors and ephemeral illusions of the lips and mouth.
