What is tricopigmentation

Today it also goes by other names: scalp micropigmentation, hair tattoo, SMP. Tricopigmentazione® is a registered trademark, co-owned by Toni Belfatto since 2009.

Its aim is to create the optical illusion of hair where there is none, addressing the visible effects of baldness and scarring.

It is an increasingly well-known solution, as effective as it is convenient, although it is still surrounded by misconceptions and sometimes let down by poorly executed work: very few dermopigmentation artists are true specialists.

Tricopigmentation is a branch of dermopigmentation dedicated to baldness, thinning hair and scalp scars. It addresses the effects of hair loss (alopecia areata, androgenetic alopecia, alopecia universalis, general thinning) and transplant scarring (scars on the scalp, linear FUT transplant scars, dot-like FUE scars).

Before and after photos show the results clearly. In some cases, comparing the starting point – transplant or accident scars, alopecia – with the final result is truly striking.

Contraindications

The treatment is not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding, for minors not accompanied by both parents, or for people with neurological or heart conditions or blood-clotting disorders. We use pigments that comply with the European REACH regulation and sterile single-use materials.

Pain

Does tricopigmentation hurt? Generally not: many of our clients actually describe it as relaxing. Pain perception is very personal, however, and where necessary numbing products can be used during the session to reduce discomfort.

Grey hair

Tricopigmentation and grey hair. Because it lasts for a limited time, the resorbable pigment lets clients change the colour they first chose to a shade that better matches the natural changes in their hair as it greys, always keeping a natural result. This is another reason why permanent pigments are not recommended.

Pigments

Are the pigments harmful? The pigments used in tricopigmentation comply with the European REACH regulation, in line with current rules.

Does it damage the hair?

Properly performed tricopigmentation places resorbable pigments in the dermis using a single-use needle. The hair's germinal papilla lies in deeper tissue and is not damaged in any way.

Cost

The cost varies: it depends on how many areas need treating and above all on their density – an area with no hair at all is different from one that already has some density. To define the price we always recommend a free quote, for men and women alike.
